June 22, 2009 · “Ice Cream Social” sponsored by the Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce, held on the Ashland County Court House Lawn, Friday, July 4th, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. There will be balloons for the kids, Ice Cream Wagon, and the Lion’s Club will have their brat and hot dog stand.
· The Annual 4th of July Parade will be held on Historic Main Street in Ashland at 11:00 a.m.
· The Ashland Historical Society Museum will host a “Cemetery Walk”, July 4th, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. in Ashland at Saint Agnes Cemetery on Sanborn Ave. There will be exciting stories from the past.
· Upper 13 League “Baseball Game”, C&S Design at Ashland Merchants at 2:30 p.m. at Pufall Field.
· The Chequamegon Bay Band Concert at Memorial Park on the Band shell at 8:00 p.m.
· The “Fire Run” will take place on Historic Main Street in Ashland at 9:45 p.m. This unique “Fire Run” has been going on for decades in Ashland. All Emergency Vehicles with flashing lights and sirens go screaming down Main Street. Literally hundreds of people line the streets for this 5 minute display.
· The spectacular “Fireworks Display over Chequamegon Bay will follow the Fire Run.
· July 4th, ABC Raceway, Stockcar races, Hotlaps, 6:15p.m., Racing at 7p.m.
· Other Celebrations in Ashland County include Fireworks displays on the 4th of July on Madeline Island, Glidden, Clam Lake and Mellen.
· July 5th is the Bay Area Rod and Custom Car Show, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Bayview Park.
· July 5th, “Sundays in the Park” , 2:00 p.m. Ellis Park

June 15, 2009 This Saturday is the Big Granite Inline Marathon/Half Marathon in Marengo, Wisconsin, starting at 7:30 a.m. Spectators are welcome to watch the skaters as they come down the “Big Hill”. All the roads are paved. This course offers a scenic mix of hills, flats, curves and straight-aways and will be closed to traffic. There is still time to register. June 9, 2009 Come to Ashland for the 19th Annual Austin Healey Car Show from 9am to Noon on June 13th in front of the Ashland County Courthouse, 201 West Main Street. There will be up to 100 British Cars on display in front of the Court House. The Court House Lawn will come alive with the Historic Society Museum Pop Corn Wagon and Root Beer Floats available for purchase. The Mural Celebration will start at 10am with costumed guided tours of the completed murals starting at 11am. Look for Mural Artists, Kelly Meredith and Sue Prentice Martinsen to give a presentation on painting the new mural, the Ore Dock Mural. Pie ON Politics will be on the Court House Lawn at 11am. May 27, 2009 Austin Healey Rendezvous Car Show 2009/ The Ashland Mural Fest, Mural Walk Celebration, June 13th, 9am-2pm. The “19th Annual Austin Healey Rendezvous Car show” is Saturday, June 13, 9a.m. to Noon. Healey enthusiasts will gather to enjoy their shared passion. The cars will be showcased in front of the Ashland County Court House, 201 Historic Main Street until Noon. At Noon the cars will proceed to JFK Memorial Airport for the “Auto Cross”. The public is invited. Take part in the Mural Walk Celebration from 10a.m.-2p.m. There will be guided tours of the nine already completed murals starting at 11a.m. Guides will be dressed in costumes depicting people from Ashland’s past. Enjoy a fascinating walk through Ashland’s history as seen through the eyes of mural artists Kelly Meredith and Susan Prentice Martinsen. Spectate the briliant painting of the artists as they paint on the newest mural, the “Oredock Mural” located on the side of Book World across from the Court House. The artists will give a presentation on the mural painting. Bring the whole family for Music, Root Beer Floats, The Historical Society Museum Popcorn Wagon, and Downtown Retail Store Sidewalk Sales. Ashland Historian Jan Cameron will have her Model-T antique car ready to give rides (Donations will be accepted). Pie ON Politics will take place on the Court House Lawn at 11am.. This is an Alliance for Sustainability fundraiser with special appearances by the Chequamegon Bay Mayors, County Board Chairs and other Political Leaders. May 12, 2009 One persons throw-a-ways are another person’s findings!!!! With over 75 garage sales throughout Ashland this coming Saturday, you will be sure to find treasures! Maps for the garage sales will be available on Saturday morning at both Holiday Gas Stations on US 2. Listings of the sales will be in Saturdays Daily Press. Be sure and check out the retail stores. They will have tables of bargains on Saturday. Look for the Lions Club Brat and Hot Dog Stand on Main Street in front of Moore’s Clothes.
Birding Enthusiasts and Nature Lovers will come together May 15-17 for the third annual Chequamegon Bay Birding and Nature Festival on the South Shore of Lake Superior, home to some of the best birding hotspots in the Midwest. May 2, 2009 The fishermen report it looks like smelting is over on both the Ashland and Washburn sides of the bay. The fishermen gave it one last try and they didn’t get any smelt. All fishermen report it was an unpredictable year for smelting. However, they report fishing is good right now on the big lake, inland lakes and streams. The bass small mouth fishing on the big lake started during the opener and all fishing on the inland lakes and steelhead fishing on the streams also opened. Come and visit us soon!
